Coming Soon to Struans: The New Peugeot E-208 GTi

The Peugeot GTi is back. The new electric Peugeot E-208 GTi is now available to order at Struans Peugeot in Perth, with test drives expected from November. If the first drives are anything to go by, it's been worth the wait.

Peugeot invited the UK motoring press to try it in September 2026 on the roads around Loch Lomond. So the first proper verdicts on Peugeot's new hot hatch came from Scottish roads, in typical Scottish weather. We think that's a pretty good sign for anyone planning to drive one round Perthshire.

What do you need to know about the Peugeot E-208 GTi?

Here are the headline facts:

  • Priced from £34,995, or £33,495 with the Electric Car Grant
  • 278bhp and 345Nm of torque, more power than any of its rivals
  • 0-62mph in 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 112mph
  • A 54kWh battery with an official range of up to 219 miles, or 233 miles on the no-cost Hankook tyre option
  • Rapid charging at up to 100kW, so 20-80% takes around 27 minutes
  • Front-wheel drive with a mechanical limited-slip differential
  • Developed by Peugeot Sport, the team behind Peugeot's Le Mans racers
  • Available to order now at Struans, with test drives expected from November 2026

How did the E-208 GTi do on its UK first drive?

Very well. Auto Express, evo and CAR magazine all gave it four out of five, and Auto Express called it "huge fun".

The roads were wet and the conditions weren't ideal, but that didn't seem to bother it. Autocar summed up the drive as "taut, grippy, busy and energetic" and said the car had plenty in reserve on the rain-soaked roads. Top Gear's take was simpler: "grippy, rapid and looks damn good."

The word that kept coming up was grip. The limited-slip differential helps it put its power down cleanly out of corners, even on greasy roads, without the steering wheel tugging in your hands. The steering is quick and direct, and body roll is kept well in check. Put your foot down in Sport mode and it really goes, which makes overtaking on a B-road a lot less stressful.

The ride is firmer than a standard E-208, as you'd expect from a GTi, but reviewers said it's still comfortable enough to live with every day.

The one thing to try for yourself is the driving position. Peugeot's i-Cockpit has a small steering wheel with the dials above it, and some drivers take to it straight away while others need a bit longer to get comfortable. It's worth a test drive to see how it suits you, and we expect to be able to offer those from November.

What's different from a standard Peugeot E-208?

Quite a lot. Peugeot Sport has gone well beyond a body kit and some badges.

The car sits lower, and the front track is 56mm wider, which gives it more grip and stability in the bends. Underneath, there's sportier suspension, an extra rear anti-roll bar and bigger 355mm front brakes with red four-piston callipers. It runs on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres as standard.

It's also light for an electric hot hatch. At 1,535kg, it's 115kg lighter than a Mini JCW Electric and 70kg lighter than a Cupra Raval VZ, and you feel that in how nimble it is.

There are plenty of nods to the 205 GTi as well. The 18-inch alloys are inspired by the 205 GTi 1.9's "telephone-dial" wheels, and inside you'll find red carpets, red seatbelts, red stitching and supportive sports seats. There are three drive modes, Eco, Normal and Sport, plus a B button if you want stronger regenerative braking.
