Struans Perth Hosts DriveWise 65+ Day
Struans Perth welcomed Police Scotland's road policing team, Perth and Kinross Council and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to Crieff Road this week for another DriveWise 65+ day. The free driving assessment scheme, aimed at helping older motorists drive safely and confidently for longer, was fully booked out.
What Happened on the Day
DriveWise 65+ gave drivers aged 65 and over a 90 minute session with a road policing officer, built around real driving situations rather than a formal test. Each participant spent time out on the road getting one to one feedback, before coming back for a chat about anything they wanted to work on, whether that was busy junctions, roundabouts or simply feeling less confident behind the wheel than they used to.
Having Police Scotland, the council and the fire service on site together meant drivers could get support from more than one angle in a single visit rather than being pointed elsewhere. It made for a relaxed, supportive atmosphere rather than anything that felt like an exam, and every slot on the day was taken, a clear sign of how much appetite there was locally for this kind of practical, no pressure support.
Why Struans Got Involved
Hosting DriveWise 65+ fitted naturally with how Struans has always approached road safety. Being a dealership isn't just about selling and servicing cars, it's also about the people driving them, and that included helping drivers of any age feel confident and supported on the road. Opening up the Perth site for the event was one of the more direct ways Struans could back that up in the local community, rather than just talking about it.
It was a pleasure to host the day, and to see so many local drivers make the most of it.
